#67 A Defense of Writing Articles

“Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a worker who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.” (2 Timothy 2:15)

In General

Writing articles is something I find to be worthwhile. Firstly I write the articles for myself so that I may have clarity in my mind about those things which I believe. While secondly I write articles to help me to help share what I believe to be the truth with others. And thirdly by sharing them with others they may also learn more about God. The biblical foundation for these ideas rests on 1 Peter 3:15 which says, “but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, but with gentleness and respect;” As far as it is possible we should seek to be ready to give a defense of all our beliefs.

On Christian Themes

I enjoy writing of all sorts but I find that writing on Christian themes provides the most value to myself and others. When I write about things related to God, I come to know him more. In studying my Bible I learn the scriptures and the nature of God more. If you find yourself disagreeing with the things I write then I challenge you to work out the truth with your own understanding and the Bible. Then bring it to me that my beliefs may be challenged as well.

On Minor Issues

If I were to critique my writing one claim that I would make is I focus too much on minor issues that don’t affect salvation; which is a fair claim. Yet in studying God’s word and encountering life and culture. I must engage the questions that come to my heart so that my faith in God may be full. While the issues I encounter may not always be the most important they are the most relevant to me. And with each question answer I come to trust God more. And when I encounter a non-believer who has diverse questions about the faith I can find myself approved, answer the questions, and move on to the most important one.

Engaging with the Broader Community

Writing articles also allows me to engage with a broader community of believers and non-believers alike. By putting my thoughts into written form and sharing them publicly, I open the door for dialogue and discussion. This interaction is invaluable, as it exposes me to different perspectives and challenges me to refine my understanding. It also creates opportunities for fellowship and mutual edification within the body of Christ. Through constructive criticism and supportive feedback, I can grow in my faith and knowledge while also helping others in their spiritual journey.

The Importance of Humility

It is important to approach the task of writing with humility and openness. Recognizing that my understanding is limited and that I am constantly learning helps me remain open to correction and growth. Writing with a humble heart means being willing to acknowledge when I am wrong and being eager to learn from others. This attitude aligns with the biblical call to be “quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry” (James 1:19). By fostering a spirit of humility, I aim to create a space where meaningful and respectful dialogue can flourish, ultimately leading to a deeper and more robust faith for all involved.
