#86 Evangelism: The ABC’s Method

Introduction

There is only one gospel and one way to receive that gospel. Yet there are many ways to remember the gospel and to share it. The Roman Road is great for keeping the focus on the Bible. Yet it may be challenging to remember all the verses and why they matter. The ABC’s method is easier to remember, it is just ABC! It would be truly valuable for this to be tied into scripture yet with this method the gospel can be shared more quickly and without having to memorize or crack a book, in some cases making it more effective.

Simply put this method is, admit that you are a sinner, believe in Jesus, and confess that Jesus is your Lord. It really is as simple as that, but there is more detail below.

A - Admit You Are a Sinner

First you must communicate that we are all sinners. Explaining what sin is and why it matters. Verses like these may be helpful: “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23) and “for the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23).

B - Believe in Jesus

You must recognize who Jesus is and why He matters. Verses like John 3:16 help summarize, “for God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life” (John 3:16)

C - Confess that Jesus is your Lord

Next is to confess that Jesus is Lord of your life. Salvation is a free gift of God yet it is not ours unless we first accept it. Such as in “if we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).
