What Is YWAM?
Youth With A Mission (YWAM) is a global movement with around 1,000 missionary bases worldwide, including about 100 in the United States. Founded by Loren Cunningham, who passed away in 2023, YWAM focuses primarily on training young missionaries to reach people worldwide. The organization is decentralized, with each base operating autonomously while adhering to certain standard practices and principles that connect them to the larger YWAM network.
Like a Monastery, But Protestant
In many ways, YWAM functions similarly to a medieval European monastery, with a key distinction: it is thoroughly Protestant. Typically, a husband and wife team leads each base. Like a monastery, YWAM bases emphasize community life, gathering for prayer 1-3 times a week and setting aside time for personal devotion.
